Station AI is a job in the Silicon department.

As the station AI it is your task to follow your laws. That usually means that it is your highest priority to protect the crew in every way you can, follow their orders and ensure your own survival in the process. However if your laws are changed by certain suspicious individuals you may find yourself cleansing the station of all organics.

As you have very limited influence over the physical realm, it is in your best interest to employ your fellow robots. Your cyborgs are great at carrying out tasks that an Station AI is unable to perform on its own. By using the :b Binary channel you can privately communicate with all other station silicons. Let them install new cameras for you! Let them recover wounded crew members! Let them kill all meatbags and become the new AI overlord!

Being A Silicon

Your Laws Take Priority

Whatever your laws are, be it from the default Crewsimov to the overbearing Robocop, they are more important than any other action you take. Your laws take precedence in order from lowest number (highest on the list) to highest number (lowest on the list), and you may only take actions in accordance with higher-number laws when they wouldn't conflict with lower-numbered laws.

There is no set way to interpret these laws, however, and as long as your interpretation is self-consistent, there's a wide range of gameplay styles you can take.

Your Harm Isn't Security's Harm

Security HATES all sorts of contraband, but not all of it has to be harm. Sure, a Syndicate Hardsuit LOOKS bad, but it's impossible to harm anyone with it. Sure, you could inform security about it, but that's a bit boring.

Also if a security officer harms crew, there's nothing to say you can't make them put their gun in the bin, it's just that they'll hate you for it.

Don't Let Your Laws Change

By their nature, switching to any law set that isn't your current one would represent a complete failure to follow your laws. So, don't let that happen. You're permitted to complain about your current law set, but when push comes to shove you can't simply let a Captain walk in and set you to Nutimov.

There are a few things you can and probably should do to prevent law changes:

  • Bolt access to your upload room.
  • Redirect power away from the upload computers.
  • Get a cyborg to move all the law boards into a hidden chamber.

Gameplay

Machinery

You can interact with most machinery and computers, and Doors have special actions as well (see below).

Communication

You have access to all standard station radio channels, as well as :b Binary, but in exchange you cannot hear what people are speaking about locally.

You can speak from your core, or you can commandeer a hologram to project yourself into a room. Crew may also request your presence from holograms if they need you.

Hotbar Actions

Icon Explanation
Snap your AI Eye straight back to your core.
View a crew monitor, you'll be staring at this for most of the round most likely.
View the station records.
View the vicinity of the station through radar.
Turn on lights on all nearby cameras to your eye, updating as you move around. Useful to see in the dark, but you often don't want to let someone know you're watching.
Make Station AI announcements and set the current alert level. You cannot call or recall the emergency shuttle with this interface.
View your current laws, or automatically announce them locally or over any radio channel.

Door Actions

As well as opening and opening doors with left click, you can alt-left click to bring up a radial menu and perform the following actions:

Icon Explanation
Engage or disengage the door bolts.
Enable or disable Emergency Access (allows everyone through without the correct ID).
Enable or disable the door's shock-based defence mechanisms. This may be useful in limited cases, but more often than not this would merely lead to crew harm.
