There are currently 7 playable species in Space Station 14 - Humans, Reptilians, Slimes, Diona, Dwarves, Arachnids, and Moths. Each has their own distinct stats, strengths, and weaknesses, but all have a few things in common:

  • All species are capable of equipping the same tools and items.
  • All species are capable of metabolizing reagents and experiencing their effects.
  • All species speak the same language.
  • All species are to be treated equally by the crew and AI onboard.

Humans

Baseline, unmodified human beings, functionally similar to the human beings of our world, aside for a comparatively incredible resistance to the vacuum of space (a trait shared more or less with all SS14 species). They cannot eat raw meat. they do not have any special abilities or traits (strengths/weaknesses) compared to other races.

Naming Convention: Common (ex. John Smith)

Body

Organs
Image Organ Purpose

Heart Determines the efficiency of blood pumping. A healthy heart means a healthier body.

Brain The center of self, the most important part of any individual. Determines who inhabits and controls the body.

Lungs Determine the rate of breathing. Unhealthy lungs may result in the body getting less O2/N2 than it needs.

Stomach Aids in the digestion of foods, liquids, and reagents in the body.

Kidneys Filter the vital fluids of any toxins they might contain.

Liver Contains enzymes that aid in certain biological processes.

Eyes Allow for visual information to be extracted from an organism's environment via light.

Reptilians

Reptile-like humanoids with sharp claws, tough scales, and an appetite for raw meat. Their unarmed melee attacks do slash instead of blunt damage due to their claws. For whatever reason, onions, coffee and tea are poisonous to them and are unable to consume anything like Grain, Dairy, or anything overly processed, however, they are able to consume both raw meat without the risk of disease and fruits.

Naming Conventions: Common, Verbal (ex. Eats-The-Mouse)

Special ability: Tail Pulling (Can have both hands free while pulling anything.)

PROS:

  • Can eat raw meat and drink blood without ill effects.
  • Do slash damage instead of blunt on unarmed attacks.
  • Have about 75co higher heat threshold than other races before starting to take damage.
CONS:
  • Their diet is highly restricted and they can only eat food containing meat or fruits.
  • Will begin freezing and getting slowed down from cold temperatures much earlier, at 20co higher than other species.
  • They take an additional 30% more cold damage from all sources.
  • Eating/drinking Theobromine and Allicin containing products (for example: Chocolate, Tea, Coffee, Onion, Garlic) will poison them

Lungs Determine the rate of breathing. Unhealthy lungs may result in the body getting less O2/N2 than it needs.

Stomach Aids in the digestion of foods, liquids, and reagents in the body. Able to digest raw meat without issue. Poisoned by theobromine and allicin.

Kidneys Filter the vital fluids of any toxins they might contain.

Liver Contains enzymes that aid in certain biological processes.

Eyes Allow for visual information to be extracted from an organism's environment via light.

Slimes

Gelatinous human-shaped masses of goo who breath nitrogen instead of oxygen, and exhale nitrous oxide. They are naturally vulnerable to both high and low pressure barotrauma, but their elastic form makes them resistant to blunt damage.

Naming Conventions: Common, Cadwellian (ex. Jon Cadwell)

Special ability: Slime Storage

PROS:

  • They take 40% less blunt damage.
  • They have double the natural regeneration rate (8.4/min compared to the average of 4.2/min) and start regenerating from below 65 damage (other species need below 20)
  • They breathe at a much slower rate.
  • While suffocating, they take 80% less Asphyxiation damage and recover from it at a normal rate.
  • They can process up to 6 reagents, versus the normal 2.
CONS:
  • They take an additional 20% more slash and piercing damage.
  • They take an additional 50% more cold damage from all sources.
  • They take minor Heat damage from water splashed/sprayed. Notably, Slime people still need to drink water.
SPECIAL:
  • They breathe nitrogen instead of oxygen, making less tanks available to them.
  • They have a 2x3 6 space inventory slot in their body but anyone can access/steal anything that is stored in it.

Diona

Tree-like plant people whose bodies react with fertilizer and weed-killing chemicals similar to regular plants. They cannot wear shoes, and have a relatively high resistance to brute-force damage. They also have sap instead of blood, and require significantly more water to stay hydrated.

Naming Conventions: Common, Qualia[1] (ex. A Peaceful Sunrise)

Special ability: Can gib themselves into Nymphs after death, then reform after 10 minutes.

Doing this will heal them from all injuries and can even revive them from potentially unrevivable situations (ex: radiation damage) But it takes 10 minutes until they can reform back into a full diona, and this also leaves them vulnerable to other dangers in the meanwhile (such as spacing). reformed nymphs will have a different diona body from their old one, which will have a different name, traits (such as gender), and even entirely new DNA & fingerprints, but will keep their characters knowledge, as per specific server death rules.

there are normally 3 pet-like Nymphs. The original player takes control of the "Brain" nymph (The only one able to talk), and the other two can be taken over and eventually reformed by ghosts if given cognizine. A zombified Diona is able to split once dead (or after giving up and returning to body) and the resulting nymphs will be zombified, though unable to reform.

PROS:

  • They take 30% less blunt damage.
  • They additionally take 20% less slash damage.
  • While suffocating, they take half the Asphyxiation damage and recover at the normal rate.
  • They are heavier than other races and can drag others and objects faster, but are heavier to drag themselves.
  • They are unaffected by the slowdown from Kudzu.
  • They can process up to 6 reagents, versus the normal 2.
CONS:
  • They take an additional 50% more heat damage from all sources.
  • They take an additional 20% more shock damage.
  • They are unable to wear any shoes to protect their feet from debris and shards (wearing a hardsuit can mitigate this issue and protect their feet) and are unable to gain any benefit from them (ex: magboots , speedboots).
  • If enough heat damage is dealt from any source, they will ignite and catch on fire (the fire damage/size depends on the amount of heat damage being dealt (a laser rifle will not burn as much compared to a vintage laser pistol/ X-ray rifle))
SPECIAL:
  • They are affected by chemicals that affect plantsexcluding mutagen , this means that they can heal and benefit from fertilizers(ex: robust harvest can heal all brute and poison damage) however, plant toxins and pesticides will damage them too.
  • Overdosing on 'Robust Harvest' in extreme excess (over 80u, around 100u is more likely to work) will polymorph the Diona into a stationary tree, which can be reverted back into the Diona by chopping it down. (Do note, however, that robust harvest will deal significant heat damage upon more than +30u overdoses)
  • They can breathe Carbon Dioxide as easily as regular oxygen.

Heart Determines the efficiency of blood pumping. A healthy heart means a healthier body.

Diona Brain The center of self, the most important part of any individual. Determines who inhabits and controls the body. Functionally identical to the other humanoid brains.

Lungs Determine the rate of breathing. Unhealthy lungs may result in the body getting less O2/N2 than it needs.

Diona Stomach Aids in the digestion of foods, liquids, and reagents in the body. Due to its plantlike nature, it can digest fertilizers and weedkillers similar to the ways a plant would. Still capable of metabolizing medicine meant for animals.

Kidneys Filter the vital fluids of any toxins they might contain.

Liver Contains enzymes that aid in certain biological processes.

Diona Eyes Allow for visual information to be extracted from an organism's environment via light. Functionally identical to other humanoid eyeballs.

Dwarves

A stout and stalwart race quite similar to humans, save for their diminutive stature, as well as a propensity for alcohol and strong Scottish accents. Somehow, alcohol is able to heal their injuries. Their small size makes them easier for most races to shove them over.

Naming Conventions: Common, Scottish, Gaelic (ex. Brian O'Finnegan)

PROS:

  • They take 80% less poison damage from overdosing on ethanol, in addition they cannot vomit from it.
  • When overdosing on ethanol they will heal a small amount of brute damage.
  • They have a 50% larger stomach size capacity, specifically for reagents (75u max, up from the standard 50u max)
CONS:
  • They are more lightweight, making them both easier to drag, and slower to drag others and objects.

Lungs Determine the rate of breathing. Unhealthy lungs may result in the body getting less O2/N2 than it needs.

Stomach Aids in the digestion of foods, liquids, and reagents in the body. Somehow capable of metabolizing alcohol as a healing agent(?)

Kidneys Filter the vital fluids of any toxins they might contain.

Liver Contains enzymes that aid in certain biological processes.

Eyes Allow for visual information to be extracted from an organism's environment via light.

Arachnids

Not to be confused with insectoids, Arachnids cut a striking figure with their pressure-resistant exoskeletons and extra arms. Possibly related to the space spiders and giant tarantulas found in outer space. Thanks to their similarly robust digestive systems, they are able to consume raw food without the risk of disease.

They have two extra pocket slots formed by webs.

Naming Conventions: Common, Latin (ex. Pluribus Unum)

Special ability: Can weave silk at the expense of hunger and craft various things.

Silk can be used to create furniture, cloth, clothes, walls, and even shields. This can help handle some critical situations (ex: craft a winter coat when temperature drops, seal a spaced area using a wall). Only Arachnids are able to utilize the silk for crafting.

PROS:

  • Can eat raw meat and drink blood without ill effects.
  • They deal piercing damage instead of blunt on unarmed attacks.
  • They have an additional 2 free pocket slots, however these are visible to everyone upon inspection.
  • They have an immunity to Mechanotoxin, a venom produced by most spiders (notably excluding Shiva)
CONS:
  • While suffocating, takes 50% more Asphyxiation damage and recovers it only at half speed.
  • They have blue blood, requiring Copper instead of Iron to regenerate and iron will poison them instead.
  • Eating/drinking Theobromine and Allicin containing products (for example: Chocolate, Tea, Coffee, Onion, Garlic) will poison them
SPECIAL:
  • They have a 50% slower reagent metabolism rate than other species (30s delay), which makes it take extra time for medicines to work, and for them to satiate their thirst and hunger, whilst on the other hand it takes more time to get poisoned by any poisons/toxins. This has no effect on externally applied reagents, so spilling acid on an Arachnid will kill them just the same as anyone else.

Body

Organs
Image Organ Purpose

Heart Determines the efficiency of blood pumping. A healthy heart means a healthier body. Pumps copper instead of iron, looks funny (does not use standard heart sprite).

Now with four times the efficiency.

Moths

Moths, meanwhile, actually are an insectoid species. Their wings allow them greater control in zero gravity than other species, and their natural resistance to cold helps greatly in a space environment. The trade-off, naturally, is that heat is more dangerous.

Naming Convention: Common, (ex. John Doe)

Special ability: Have increased acceleration when moving in zero-G environments

PROS:

  • They take additional 30% less cold damage from all sources.
  • Will start freezing and getting slowed down from cold much later at 20co lower than other species.
  • Increased 0-G acceleration.
CONS:
  • Will start taking heat damage much earlier at 5co lower than other races, intense heat will quickly burn them.
  • They take an additional 30% more heat damage from all sources.
  • They take 3 times more heat/burn damage when on fire compared to other species, making fire extremely deadly to them.
  • They are unable to swallow any pills due to their diet, requiring them to be dissolved in other mediums instead.
SPECIAL:
  • Moths have an exclusive cloth diet. Moths cannot eat most things from other species, however they can eat clothing, gloves and other wearable items which are exclusive to them and are in higher abundance. In addition, chefs can prepare moth specific food recipes for them.

Vox

Vox are a strange lot, they're raptor-like creatures that can only breathe nitrogen, as oxygen is very hazardous to their health to the point where they take ticking poison damage as long as they're exposed to the air, provided said air has even a trace of oxygen within it. To counter-act this, a Vox must either be in a pure nitrogen-based environment or, more commonly, breathing from a nitrogen tank, one of which is provided to them at the start of each round.

Much like Reptilians, their unarmed attacks deal slashing damage instead of blunt.

(This species is NOT recommended for new players.)

Naming Convention: Common, Mono-name with Repetitive Random Syllables (ex. Hirixashahre, Xapikrikrik)

Special ability: NONE

PROS:

  • They do slash damage instead of blunt on unarmed attacks.
  • They regenerate poison damage <20, allowing them to take off their masks and eat/drink for up to 30 seconds, regenerating the damage over 2 minutes.
CONS:
  • Oxygen is toxic to them , they require to have internals on at all times and sometimes require to put the mask off when they need to eat/swallow anything. (there are other alternatives way to get reagents in such as a syringe without need to turn off the internals)
