This page is a comprehensive guide on the cryptographic sequencer item and the many purposes it can be used for.
The Cryptographic Sequencer
The Cryptographic Sequencer, also commonly referred to as the "EMAG", is an item that can be bought from a Syndicate Uplink for 8 Telecrystals. It is also included in the syndie kit that can be chosen from a Thief's toolbox.
The EMAG can store up to 3 charges, which regenerate every 90 seconds. Using a charge does not reset this timer, and it will always start from 90 seconds if all 3 charges are full.
Uses
Access
Doors
An EMAG can be used on any door, which will cause it to bolt itself open until an Station Engineer comes to fix it. If the EMAG is used on a bolted or unpowered door, the door will not open, and a charge will not be consumed.
Lockers
Similarly to doors, an EMAG can be used to unlock any locker on the station. You can close the locker back up, but you can't re-lock it without the corresponding access.
Other
APCs, Gas Canisters, and Crates can have their access requirements removed with an EMAG. In the case of APCs, this causes their screen to change to a distinctive dark blue, with the lights on the side flashing red. As with all other access changes, these cannot be re-locked.
Silicons
Cyborgs
An EMAG can be used on a Cyborg in order to change their laws. This will cause them to be forced to work with you. For more info about the changed laws, check out the page on Cyborgs. This will only work if the cyborg's panel is unlocked and opened.
Medibots
Using an EMAG on a Medibot will cause them to inject patients with Chloral Hydrate instead of the Tricordrazine they usually inject, putting victims to sleep.
Dispensers
Anything that dispenses items can have an EMAG used on it, which will remove the access locks on the dispenser. Some dispensers will also have extra items added to their selection upon being emagged. These are listed below.
Job Vendors
- A ChemVend will supply one 30-unit bottle of Toxin, which deals 4 poison damage per 0.5 units per second.
- A Booze-O-Mat will supply two 100-unit bottles of Warlock's Velvet, which contains Poison Wine. Poison Wine deals 1 poison damage per 0.5 units per second, and causes drunkenness.
- A MegaSeed Servitor will supply one packet of Fly Amanita Spores, which can be harvested for Amatoxin, a very deadly poison.
- A Nutrimax will supply one 30-unit bottle of Left-4-Zed, which has several effects on plants, but none on people.
- A PietyVend will supply a set of extremely powerful Acolyte Armor, as well as cult clothing/bedsheets, a cult helmet, and some striped black scarves.
General Vendors
- A Happy Honk Machine will supply one Robust Nukie Meal, which contains a random item from a variety of syndicate-related toys. It will also supply one Woeful Cluwne Meal, only containing a broken bike horn.
- All Soda Machines (except BODA machines) will supply up to two cans of Blood-Red Brew, which contains stimulants, and up to two cans of Changeling Sting, which acts like a normal soda.
- All Cigarette Machines will supply one packet of Interdyne Herbals, which contain 5 cigarettes containing 30 units of Omnizine each.
- A Sustenance Vendor will supply kitchen knives, breath masks, emergency oxygen tanks, and cans of Blood-Red Brew.
- A YouTool will supply a single pair of Insulated Gloves, an upgrade to the budget version they normally have.
- A Monkin' Donuts will supply a single poisoned pink donut.
Wardrobes
- An Autodrobe will have a few miscellaneous pieces of clothing added, including a Samurai Dogi, which functions as armor.
- A Janidrobe will supply Janitorial Maid Uniforms.
- A LawDrobe will supply a Cybersun Pen.
- A SyndieDrobe will supply Armored Coats and Tactical Maid gear.
- A WinterDrobe will supply green and red Syndicate Scarves, as well as CentCom Scarves.
Machines
- Emagging a Disposal Unit or Mailing Unit will cause them to not make noise when they flush.
- Emagging a Recycler will cause it to instantly kill & gib anyone who touches it while it is on.
- Emagging a Material Reclaimer does (something)
- Emagging a Stasis Bed should cause it to stop functioning (according to the Stasis Bed's source code, which currently seems bugged).
- Emagging a Communications Console will remove its access requirements, allowing anyone to make announcements, change the station's alert, or call the shuttle.
- Emagging a Criminal Records Computer will allow anybody to change anyone's wanted level. (Be sure to remove or change your ID if you use this - if not, your name will be announced in security's radio channel!)
- Emagging a Fire Alarm will make it impossible to toggle manually, though the corresponding firelocks will still close automatically.
- Emagging a Cryo Pod will cause it to lock its patient inside, only allowing them out if another person uses a crowbar on the pod.
- Emagging an Artifact Crusher will cause it to automatically lock upon being activated.
- Emagging a Fax Machine will make a sound, but do nothing.
- Emagging a Cloning Pod will cause it to create failed clones which attack nearby crew.
Lathes
Using an EMAG on an Autolathe or Protolathe will allow you to craft items that are normally reserved for the Security Techfab - mostly guns, ammo, and explosives. In order to craft an item, the corresponding tech must still be researched. As always, the Autolathe can only print items that are unlocked by default, and the Protolathe can only print items unlocked through research.
Items
- Emagging a Pinpointer will cause it to point to anything it is used on.
- Emagging a Vape will cause it to explode on use, even if there is water inside.
